Message… Rams head coach Paul Warne.
Paul Warne says Derby County should be mindful of the threat that resurgent Cheltenham Town pose and felt they proved how dangerous they can be against Bolton in midweek.
The Rams are aiming to return to winning ways against Darrell Clarke’s side after losing to Reading in midweek and missing out on the chance to go top of League One. Former Derby captain Curtis Davies will be in the Robins’ line-up as he makes his first return to Pride Park since being released by the club back last May.
Cheltenham looked a certainty to be relegated earlier in the season, but have been excellent under Clarke and were unlucky not to take something from their game against Bolton. Ian Evatt’s side eventually won the game 1-0 but the Robins gave them a scare and had a goal disallowed for offside.
Derby head coach Warne said: “I’ve got a lot of time for their manager Darrell Clarke, he’s a great guy. We struggled against them away from home in October (the game finished in a 1-1 draw) and if you don’t look at their league position but look at their form, they are doing well and playing with some real freedom.
“We watched them play against Bolton in midweek and in fairness to them, they had more shots, more attempts, more corners, had a goal disallowed and had three glorious opportunities against one of the best teams in the league. It will be a tough game and that is always the problem. The lads know this. Don’t worry about the league table, it counts for nothing. We will have to be really good to beat a really good, strong and organised team.”
