Delhi Metro chief on late-night inspection after wall collapse at Gokulpuri station

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Managing Director Vikas Kumar went on a late-night inspection of the elevated stations on the Pink Line after a portion of a wall collapsed at Gokulpuri metro station earlier this week.

A 53-year-old man died and four people were injured in the Thursday morning incident at Gokulpuri station in North-East Delhi.

In a tweet posted by DMRC, Kumar interacted with staff deputed for inspection and maintenance work and enquired about the overall progress of work.

“DMRC MD Dr Vikas Kumar went to the elevated stations of Pink Line on a night inspection to interact with the staff deputed for inspection and maintenance work to enquire about the overall progress of work,” DMRC wrote on X.

Earlier on Friday, the DMRC held a comprehensive review meeting a day after the Gokulpuri incident. Heads of all relevant departments attended the meeting, receiving detailed instructions on preventive measures to avoid similar occurrences in the future.

Kumar has mandated rigorous inspections of parapets at all elevated stations on the Pink Line, emphasising the paramount importance of passengers’ and public safety.

He stressed the necessity for any essential corrective action at any station.

The DMRC has already initiated an internal examination regarding the Gokulpuri incident.

The DMRC has announced an ex-gratia compensation amount of Rs 15 lakh to the kin of the deceased. Those who have suffered minor injuries will get ex gratia of Rs 50,000, while those with serious injuries will get Rs 2.5 lakh.
