Die zehn teuersten Autos 2021 wurden über die drei Auktionshäuser Gooding & Co, RM Sotheby’s und Artcurial versteigert und erbrachten zusammen einen Ertrag von 88,8 Millionen US-Dollar (umgerechnet ca. 81,3 Mio. Fr.). Das sind 22,1 Millionen Dollar (ca. 20,2 Mio. Fr.) mehr als noch vor zwei Jahren.
Interessant: Sechs der zehn teuersten Auktions-Autos 2021 wurden am Wochenende vom 13. bis 15. August an der Monterey Auction Week im Rahmen des kalifornischen Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance versteigert.
Erst seit dem Jahreswechsel geniesst der 1992 vorgestellte McLaren F1 offiziell Oldtimerstatus. Als das teuerste Auto des abgelaufenen Jahres Mitte August 2021 während des Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach vom US-Auktionshaus Gooding & Co für 20,5 Millionen Dollar (umgerechnet ca. 18,8 Mio. Fr.) verkauft wurde, war der vom damaligen McLaren-F1-Designer Gordon Murray gestylte Dreisitzer mit Formel-1-Technik und BMW-V12-Power genaugenommen noch gar kein Oldtimer – zumal der versteigerte Bolide erst 1995 gefertigt wurde, dafür in der einmaligen Sonderlackierung Creigton Brown. Aber der 370 km/h schnelle Superbolide, heute noch das schnellste von einem Saugmotor angetriebene Serienauto, ist halt sonst ein typisches Sammlerauto: stark (je nach Ausbaustufe bis 680 PS), selten (106 Exemplare, nur 69 davon für die Strasse, dazu kein Vorgänger- und Nachfolgermodell) und kaum gefahren (nur 389 Kilometer).
Berühmte Besitzer
Dazu gibts einige berühmte Besitzer, die eines der seltenen bis 1997 gebauten Exemplare besitzen – oder besassen. US-Moderator und Autofan Jay Leno (71) hat zum Beispiel einen. Tesla-Chef Elon Musk (50) schwärmte von den dynamischen Fahreigenschaften seines Exemplars – und kam damit nach einem missglückten Spurwechsel von der Strasse ab. Auch der britische Schauspieler Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean, 67) fuhr seinen zu Schrott, liess ihn dann für umgerechnet über eine Million Franken reparieren, ehe er erneut einen Unfall damit baute und danach sein «Unglücks-Exemplar» 2015 für knapp zwölf Millionen Franken verkaufte.
Sie sind Garanten für extrem hohe Preise an Auktionen, die Ferrari aus den 50er- und 60er-Jahren. Im abgelaufenen Jahr schafften es gleich fünf solcher Zwölfzylinder-Modelle aus Maranello unter die Top Ten der am teuersten verkauften Autos. Für 10,84 Millionen US-Dollar (ca. 9,92 Mio. Fr.) wurde am 14. August, also am selben Samstag wie der teuerste McLaren, ebenfalls in Pebble Beach ein Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider Competizione aus dem Jahre 1959 versteigert. Er schafft es damit in unserem Ranking auf Platz 2.
Der Verschmähte
Interessant: Praktisch gleichzeitig und nur fünf Meilen entfernt versuchte RM Sotheby’s in Monterey einen Porsche 917 K zu versteigern. Der einst in Le Mans beim 24-Stunden-Klassiker eingesetzte Rennwagen sollte noch deutlich mehr als der Ferrari bringen – zwischen zwölf und 15 Millionen Dollar. Doch an besagter Auktion fand sich kein Käufer für den in Le-Mans-Porsche. Wetten, dass er diesen August wieder angeboten wird und es dann vielleicht doch noch in unser Ranking der teuersten verkauften Autos schafft?
Das drittteuerste Auto
Hinter dem McLaren F1, dem Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider Competizione erzielte einer von nur 19 gebauten Aston Martin DB4 Zagato den dritthöchsten Auktionspreis im Jahr 2021. Sein Verkaufspreis lag inklusive Aufgeld bei 9,5 Millionen US-Dollar (ca. 8,7 Mio. Fr.).
Das Verlustgeschäft
Übrigens: Nicht mit jedem alten und raren Sammlerstück lässt sich automatisch finanzieller Gewinn erwirtschaften. Diese Erfahrung musste im letzten Jahr jener Besitzer eines Ferrari 268 SP machen, der sein Auto im Sommer 2021 für 7,7 Millionen US-Dollar (7,0 Mio. Fr.) weiterverkaufte. Damit war der Ferrari zwar das fünftteuerste Auto 2021 – aber für den früheren Besitzer dennoch ein Verlustgeschäft. Denn er hatte den Ferrari drei Jahre zuvor für 9,4 Millionen Dollar (8,6 Mio. Fr.) ersteigert. Laut Experten brachte er seinen Ferrari zu früh wieder auf den Markt.
