- Supreme Court gave no reason for the justice’s absence
- Country’s highest court was in session for oral arguments on Monday
Conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was not present in court on Monday for oral arguments and the court did not give a reason for his absence.
Chief Justice John Roberts said Thomas ‘is not on the bench today’ in court but he would ‘participate fully’ in two cases being argued based on the briefs and transcripts.
DailyMail.com reached out to the Supreme Court for additional information on his absence.
The Supreme Court was set to hear oral arguments for two cases on Monday. Thomas was not participating in oral arguments remotely as justices sometimes have done when they can’t be in court in person.
The court has in the past sometimes said when a justice is out sick but not always.
Thomas was hospitalized two years ago with an infection which caused him to miss several court sessions then too.
Justice Thomas, 75, is one of nine justices on the U.S. Supreme Court and has served on the country’s highest court since 1991, making him currently the longest serving justice on the court.
The Supreme Court has a conservative 6-3 majority.
