Woman says her pup's daycare 'switched' her pet with another canine

A woman has revealed how her puppy’s doggy daycare ‘switched’ her pet with another canine – admitting it took her weeks to realize.

Madison Stutte, who is based in the US, took to TikTok to relay the story of how the mix up of the seven-month-old golden retrievers occurred.

She said she ended up taking care of the ‘wrong dog’ for two weeks after dropping pup Farley off where his collar was removed during playtime.

The doting dog owner said she was left ‘really shaken up’ and ‘going crazy’ before she was able to switch the pups back.

In the clip, which has been viewed more than 416,000 times, Madison wasted little time in delving into the story.

‘Two weeks ago I brought home a dog from daycare and right away could tell something was off – he wasn’t acting right, he wasn’t behaving right,’ she began.

She revealed she had been looking after the wrong pup for the entirety of the two weeks, adding: ‘You might ask “why didn’t you notice this right away?”

‘Well, they were both seven-month-old golden retriever puppies. Looked identical.

‘I called the daycare the next day and said “hey, did something happen yesterday? My dogs acting really weird.”‘

The employees allayed her fears but still something did not sit right.

Madison continued: ‘Fast forward to today. I’m realizing more and more that this is not my dog.’

She began flipping through the daycare’s photos on social media after they shared snapshots – along with names – of all their four-legged visitors.

‘I was looking at the photos on Facebook today. Our dog’s name is Farley. The dog who looks identical to him is Charlie.

‘So I’m looking at Charlie and I’m like “that looks like my Farley.” This Farley does not look like Farley.’

Madison began obsessively comparing the pictures of the two dogs and was able to pick out some defining features including on their tongues and fur patterns.

She also shared a still from the daycare’s surveillance cameras as the two pups stared at each other, adding: ‘They’re having a little Parent Trap moment, like, “why do we look alike?”‘

Madison, who admitted she was ‘going crazy’ analyzing the photos, and her fiancé eventually found a vet who could scan microchips.

‘They scan him with the chip reader because our dog is microchipped and he’s fixed,’ in reference to Farley being neutered.

‘The microchip reader is not going off. It’s not reading a chip at all.

‘They’re going all around his body. She grabs another vet tech to come in and take a look.’

Madison said that the vet then checked to see if the dog had been ‘fixed’ but the pup on the table was ‘still in tact.’

It was at this point that the vet confirmed to Madison that ‘this is not your dog.’

Maddy admitted: ‘I lost my mind… We’re going in tomorrow to the doggy daycare at 6.30 in the morning with this dog and we are not leaving without our dog.

‘I have no idea who has my dog right now but I hope he’s okay. I hope he’s happy. I hope he’s healthy…

‘It’s a very sad situation. I am very upset. This dog is probably so confused.

‘I hope Farley is okay. I hope he’s not confused. I just hope he doesn’t like that family more than us.’

Madison, who revealed that the doggy daycare center takes collars off pups during playtime, disabled comments on the clip but later shared an update.

‘Farley and Charlie have been switched back. They’re with their right owners.

‘Everything is situated right now in that department. Everything else – like the legalities of it all – that will come at a later date.’

Elaborating further on the entire situation in response to previous comments from viewers, she explained that taking collars off dogs during playtime is a ‘safety regulation.’

‘It’s so that they don’t suffocate with them. They don’t get them caught in something and other dogs don’t get caught up with them…

‘I did not know that they took the collars off. I was not aware. I was not told this until I saw it in the photos that they were posting on Facebook.

‘I said: “Why does my dog have a different colored-collar on?” That is how I found out.’

She continued: ‘A lot of people were asking, “how did I not know right away it was not my dog?”

‘I did. I did notice. But I was gaslighting myself into believing, “how on earth would they have switched them? Why would a doggy-daycare do this? How could they have done this?”

‘You literally will come up with any explanation other than the impossible, because I truly thought, this was impossible, and so I was coming up with, “he’s seven months old, he’s going through puberty, he’s changing – a lot of things are changing really fast.”

‘I was convincing myself, “oh no, like this is fine. He probably just lost his mohawk on his snout. His fur is changing a little bit.”

‘So all these people that are telling me that they would know right away – he’s a puppy. A lot of golden retriever puppies look-alike and they look similar enough, acted similar enough to get it past me.’

She shared: ‘Everything is situated right now in that department. Everything else – like the legalities of it all – that will come at a later date’

Maddy shared: ‘To answer the other question, if the other family knew? The other family had no idea. Not a clue.

‘Even when the manager called, the owner was like, “no this is my dog. He’s answering to his name, he’s listening to the commands. This is my dog.”

‘That’s when I got really worried and worked up that I was not getting my dog back, but I have him microchipped.

‘He is my “property” in the state of Michigan, so I knew that I was gonna get him back. I didn’t know if I was gonna have to fight for him.’

Luckily, the owners of Charlie and went into the doggy daycare to sort the situation out.

‘They were so understanding with us and they were so confused and so caught-off guard at how this could happen.

‘We did the switch right there and they were really reassuring that Farley was taken care of and Charlie was just as well taken care of with us, and that’s all we can ask for.’
