Former Steelers assistant Russ Grimm compares Steelers offensive line to Washington in 1980s
Russ Grimm was instrumental to the Steelers having a great running attack in the early to mid 2000s. He was the offensive line coach in Pittsburgh from 2001-06 before joining former offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt in Arizona when he became the Cardinals’ head coach.
Grimm is also in the Pro Football Hall of Fame for being one of the best guards of all time as a four-time Pro Bowler with Washington in the 1980s.
The three-time All-Pro joined 93.7 The Fan and compared this Steelers group of offensive lineman to that of Washington and ‘The Hogs.”
“I remember a team that started [three] rookie offensive linemen- [that] being the Redskins in 1981,” Grimm said. “We seemed to do alright.”
Grimm added that he likes the look of the Steelers’ offensive line, even if it is a young unit.
“[You] get the right type of guys and the right mindset in that offensive line room,” Grimm said. “I think they are going to be fine.”
The Steelers are likely to start rookies Troy Fautanu and Zach Frazier, whom they drafted in the first and second rounds, respectively, in the 2024 NFL Draft.
