Former North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum endorsed former President Donald Trump during a rally in Iowa Sunday, just one day ahead of the state’s caucuses.
Burgum is the first candidate from the original 2024 Republican presidential primary field to endorse Trump.
“I’ve had a chance as governor to see what the world is like under Joe Biden,” Burgum said. “America needs a 180-degree change.”
Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who both also dropped out of the presidential primary field, have not yet endorsed a candidate. Christie, who exited the race last week, vowed to never support Trump.
Burgum suspended his presidential bid in December after failing to surpass one percent in polling.
