Former first rounder posts goodbye to Steelers

former first rounder posts goodbye to steelers

Terrell Edmunds

The Steelers continue to bring in outside talent and let their free-agents walk, and that seems to be the case for Pittsburgh’s 2018 first round pick.

Safety Terrell Edmunds tweeted his farewell to the Steelers, confirming he has played his last down in Pittsburgh.

Edmunds was taken by the Steelers with the 28th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and spent the last five years in Pittsburgh. He totaled 410 tackles, five sacks, five interceptions and 26 passes defensed in his career.

Edmunds, who is still only 26, should have some kind of market among the league. He never reached the expectations some had for him as a first-round pick, but he was always a solid player for the Steelers.

Letting Edmunds walk does come as a little bit of a surprise. The team brought back safety Damontae Kazee on a two-year deal last week, but Kazee feels like more of a band-aid solution at 29-years-old.

Safety now becomes a position of need that Pittsburgh will need to address with what is either left in free agency or in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Steelers do have three picks in the top 50 of the draft that they could select a safety, but the team has several other needs as well. Maybe general manager Omar Khan has one more trick up his sleeve.
