Former Devil Advances to Second Round of 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs
WASHINGTON, D.C. — At least one former New Jersey Devils player will appear in the second round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Jimmy Vesey and the New York Rangers celebrated a round-one victory on Sunday night against the Washington Capitals with a 4-2 victory. The club swept the series, outscoring their opponent 15-7.
Vesey appeared in all four games and collected two points (one goal, one assist). He played a pivotal role in Game 1 on the fourth line alongside Matt Rempe and Barclay Goodrow, where the trio combined for five points.
Vesey appeared in 68 games for the Devils during the 2021-22 season. He potted eight goals and finished his campaign with 15 points. In an injury-riddled season, he appeared up and down New Jersey’s lineup, becoming a valuable depth player.
During his end-of-season media availability in May 2022, Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald spoke about Vesey, who was then set to become an unrestricted free agent.
“I think Jimmy Vesey came in here, he earned a spot on this team. I can put my head on the pillow every night knowing I helped grow his game to a point where if it’s not here, someone will find value in him at the NHL level to help their team,” he said.
Almost a year to the day after signing as a free agent with New Jersey, Vesey signed with New York.
The 30-year-old is in the midst of his second stint with the Rangers. He began his NHL career with the organization during the 2016-17 season.
