Solskjaer’s position at United has come under sever scrutiny after Liverpool won 5-0 at Old Trafford.
United are without a win in the top-flight since losing 1-0 to Villa last month when Kortney Hause scored the winner in the final stages of the match.
And following a winless run of four games in the Premier League, Collymore said: “I think there’s a clash of football civilisations. Hire and fire, Chelsea and Watford, vs give people people time to put a structure in place.
“I like to give people an idea and put structures in place but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hasn’t been there for six months, he’s been there for a considerable amount of time now.
“I know that Manchester United have finally walked into the 21st century and have tried to put the pieces in place behind the scenes, a director football, head of recruitment, you name it.
“So there’s an argument that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should benefit from that system but I ask Manchester United fans one question and one question alone.
“If Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hadn’t scored that goal in the Camp Nou and hadn’t achieved what he achieved with Manchester United football club as a player, would he be in the top 25 candidates with his CV?
“The answer is clear, the answer is no.”
