Former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader VK Sasikala paid tribute at former chief minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa’s memorial at Marina beach in Chennai, a day ahead of the golden jubilee celebration of the founding of the AIADMK party.
This is Sasikala’s first visit to the memorials since her return from jail earlier this year.
“Whatever burden I had in my heart in the past four years, I have offloaded it here,” said Sasikala after paying tribute to Jayalalithaa.

Getting emotional during the visit, she said, “People know why I took so long to come to Jaya Memorial. Jayalalitha lived for cadres and the people of Tamil Nadu. I am leaving with the belief that Jayalalitha will save the AIADMK. I told her that the AIADMK has a prosperous future.”

Analysts say this politically significant move could be Sasikala’s bid to reclaim her position in the AIADMK.
After being released from Parapanna Agrahara Jail in Bengaluru, Sasikala made a surprise announcement by saying that she would stay away from politics.
Meanwhile, Sasikala also got a new name from her followers, ‘Puratchi Thai’ (mother of Revolution). Earlier she was called ‘Thyagathalaivi’ (Leader of Sacrifice).
