Forget to buy a Mother's Day present? Here are some last-minute gift ideas to save the day
We’ve been celebrating moms all week here on TMS as we camp down to Mother’s Day. And if you still haven’t found that perfect gift for mom, we’ll do not stress because food and lifestyle expert pay. Chen is here with some last minute gift ideas that your mom will surely love. Pay. Good to see you. Nice to see you. I’m here to help you out. All right. Thank you. Appreciate this public service. And we’re going to start with your top two food and drink pics for mom. Yeah. So let’s start off right in front of you. Jeff, we have some beautiful tea. This is from Jolene Tea House based in Banff, Alberta, and it’s a nod to the tea houses of the Canadian Rocky. So you can see some of the packaging there, which I think is really adorable. So I love this for for Mother’s Day, for Hostess gift even, right. Really beautiful packaging. Jolene Brewster, she creates all of the blends. She sources her ingredients from all over the world, so the teas, the spices that she uses. I’m particularly fond of the Chai trio that I’ve put in front of you. Like, I don’t know if you can smell the cardamom, but that’s what I’m smelling right now, which I think is it’s really nice, really lovely. And I also just love that she has created all of these blends and they’re just so giftable. So these tins, for example. Then I’ve got this, like, nice Maple trio, which is like a nod to our Canadian Maple syrup as well. And her inspiration comes from the Banff National Park as well. So the environment around her, we’re gonna move on to Nanaimo bars. How do you feel about those? I’ve never met an Nanaimo bar. I haven’t liked it. Oh, OK. I wasn’t sure how that was starting off. Like, I’ve never. I’m like, oh, no, here we go. So Northern Bars, this is a company that was started in 2020 by a couple their partners in life and in business and they’re based out of Granville Island, British Columbia. And what they wanted to do was take a Canadian classic, a staple, the Nanaimo bar, and then just kind of make a gourmet do A twist on it. So they have their classics, but they also have a smoky bacon, an apple and cinnamon. Using BC apples, Saskatoon Berry and lemon you can you can also order these. So northernbars.ca is their website and they have these new single flavour 9 of piece boxes here. Jeff, you took the Saskatoon Berry and lemon. So I just love it ’cause me for a Nanaimo bar. I actually don’t want more than this little bite, right, ’cause like they’re they’re yeah, they’re very decadent. So there’s another gift to think about. And then for the mom, let’s say on the go, whether it’s traveling to work, maybe we had a little off camera conversation about the gym. Freon Collective is a Toronto local. She hand makes all of her cosmetic bags. I just love the bright prints. So whether you want to tuck this into your work bag, whether you do you want to take this to the gym or you know mom is a traveller for example, she also used I love the idea that she takes a lot of things that are normally disposable and makes them reusable. So these are like makeup removing face clothes, right. The cotton rounds, these are organic cotton. She does face cloth as well as scrunchies. So nice little package gift sets but also just a really nice local Canadian made product. And then I wanted to highlight some like street wear sneakers as well. So for me, like, these are from New Balance. This is like a street wear one. Great for running errands looking cool, great spring essential. But then this one here is also really great from like every day to race day. So this is a runner. My mom joined the gym now in her 70s. And so now this is actually something that I look for to make sure she’s not, you know, injuring herself or anything like that. So the the 960 is a nice kind of like street wear one if you want, you know, mom to like, look cool when she’s out running brunch. And Erin, can I say that one here. I got the fresh foam ones earlier this year for the gym. So good if you have problems with your feet. Yeah. Yes. Oh, I’m so glad to hear. Yeah. So these are the 1080 V 13 and yeah, so just give you that nice bounce cuz Sure do gym goer. OK, now if you’re a mom like me and love your candles, you’ve got something. You love your candle. I do. OK. Puts me at ease. And yes, how do you feel about the terrarium candles? I’m absolutely in love with these. So I also wanted to highlight a few Asian owned businesses because it’s also Asian Heritage Month. So I thought, I thought, why not, when we’re talking about Mother’s Day, Also look at some local Canadian and Asian owned businesses. So this is by Zowit Studio. I found them on Etsy. She does these beautiful little touring candles, different sizes. They smell wonderful. But also like, instead of having to water them, you just burn them, right? So there you go. Let’s be quite the avenue. That’s opposite. Yeah, total opposite. Don’t have to worry about it. That’s so cute. Aren’t they beautiful? I just think they’re such a great centerpiece and a really unique gift. There’s also for the foodie mom Mala, the brand. This is by Melody Lim. She does. This great toast candle is like toast, butter, cinnamon, really nice scent. She also has this nice little cereal collection. So like a nostalgic sense of like Honey Nut Cheerios, Fruit Loops, Lucky Charms, So just a lot of really fun products. Yeah, I think, yeah, they’re quite fun. And also just really giftable. Also found on Etsy and then if you like really nice soaps, which I think is something that people it’s a nice gift. You don’t necessarily buy yourself the nicest soap but I think it’s a really beautiful gift. And this is by Sue Works also another Asian owned business. She’s a one woman show. She wants to make products that people will enjoy every day. She also does some really nice candles but she has really beautiful little box sets that are really great for Mother’s Day. And I just think these are just wonderful like last minute gifts. Especially if there’s something that you think could be a mom in your life, not necessarily your own mom that you want to give her a little beautiful gift to and options. All right, Some great ideas. Before we let you go, you mentioned your mom working at hard at the gym. I I think we’ve got footage of mom, My mom now in her. So my mom there is much younger than I am now, which kind of is wild. She’s in her 30s there, but she just joined a gym last year and now in her 70s. Just want to take care of her health. And, you know, that’s what I’m hoping she will do. And I know Carolyn, that might be inspiration for you. It will be inspiration for me. I said I’m going to be like Pei’s mom and that’s what I’m probably going to join the gym at 7:00, but hopefully sooner May. But that. But that is very inspiring. I love that. Tell your mom good job. Yes, pay. Thank you so much. Great to see you this morning to see you too. Appreciate it.
