Riade, 28 abr 2024 (Lusa) – A diretora do Fundo Monetário Internacional (FMI) afirmou hoje que os países pobres devem “fazer a sua parte” para receber o apoio económico das nações ricas, especialmente em matéria de reestruturação das dívidas e das suas necessidades financeiras.

“Os países pobres também devem fazer a sua parte. Devem cobrar impostos, combater a corrupção, melhorar a qualidade dos seus gastos e demonstrar que estão comprometidos com o seu próprio povo”, declarou Kristalina Georgieva durante um painel da reunião especial do Fórum Económico Mundial, que começou hoje em Riade, na Arábia Saudita.

A diretora do FMI garantiu que, se estas condições forem satisfeitas, os países ricos deverão responder com “uma grande quantidade de ajuda internacional para a reestruturação da dívida” desses país e para outros tipos de apoios.

“É hora de reconhecer que estamos juntos neste pequeno navio chamado mundo e que os países ricos não podem dizer aos países pobres: ‘o seu lado do navio tem fugas’. Todos nós afundaríamos”, disse a economista.

Da mesma forma, lembrou que as economias mundiais têm sido “resilientes” apesar dos choques dos últimos anos e lembrou que o FMI melhorou a projeção de crescimento global para 3,2% em 2024, principalmente devido ao bom desempenho económico de “um pequeno número de países”, como os Estados Unidos ou a China.

Por isso, a responsável do FMI estabeleceu que as prioridades “imediatas” dos países deveriam ser reduzir a inflação, reconstruir as suas reservas fiscais para enfrentar os choques externos e encontrar “maneiras de cooperar mais, porque a fragmentação da economia é certamente má para as perspetivas de crescimento”.

Já o ministro das Finanças da Arábia Saudita, Mohammed al-Jadaan, alertou no mesmo painel que os desafios geopolíticos que o mundo enfrenta, como a guerra na Faixa de Gaza, são alguns dos riscos mais importantes para a economia mundial.

“As tensões geopolíticas trazem consigo coisas que impactam diretamente as economias, como a fragmentação, o protecionismo ou o uso da economia como ferramenta para alcançar objetivos geopolíticos em termos de limitações ao comércio ou à tecnologia”, declarou o ministro saudita.

Diante disso, recomendou que os países se concentrem no desenvolvimento do seu capital humano, na inovação e tecnologia, e na sustentabilidade da dívida, para estarem mais preparados para este tipo de desafios.

Relativamente à guerra em Gaza, o ministro indicou que os conflitos geram um grande impacto nas “emoções e nos ânimos”, algo que afeta diretamente a economia, razão pela qual pediu aos líderes mundiais que mantenham a “cabeça fria” e façam o que for possível para impedir a escalada da violência na região.
