Flu shot for extra groups

Flu shot for extra groups

De Bilt

The flu shot is offered annually free of charge to people aged 60 and older and to people who are at extra risk for medical reasons of becoming seriously ill from the flu virus. On 20 September 2021, the Health Council advised expanding the target group for the flu shot to include a few specific groups that also benefit from a flu shot, such as pregnant women and people who are seriously overweight.

Report yourself

The State Secretary of VWS Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport has indicated that people from these extra groups may already report to the general practitioner this year for a free flu shot. Sufficient vaccines are available. People who belong to the extra target groups can contact their own GP between 1 October and 1 November. They will receive the vaccination by December 2021 at the latest.

People aged 60 and older or people who have normally already received an invitation for another condition do not have to register. As in previous years, they will receive an invitation from the general practitioner. The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport will decide later whether the people currently classified as vulnerable by the Health Council will also receive a free flu shot in the future and will receive an invitation for this.
