She’s the home grown Hollywood legend who is known for her trendy sense of style.

But Cate Blanchett, 54, threw caution to the wind on Saturday when she hit the stage at the AACTA Awards in an outlandish pink dress, which she topped with a giant polka-dot bow on her head.

The outfit drew gasps of shock from the audience as Cate took to the microphone to present the Trailblazer Award to Margot Robbie.

Cate, amidst laughter from the audience, indicated that the outfit was tongue-in-cheek.

‘Middle-aged Barbie,’ the star said, as she struggled to keep a straight face.

She then comically winked at the audience, who responded with laughter and applause.

Meanwhile, Margot could hardly control her own laughter as she took to the stage to accept her prize.

‘If you asked me growing up who my favour actor was, my answer was always, and will always be, Cate Blanchett,’ Robbie told her idol.

‘I have been adoring you from afar for as long as I can remember. To be adoring you now at such close proximity is truly overwhelming,’ she continued.

‘I did have big, big dreams as a kid, and big dreams can carry you pretty far, but the love and support of your family and friends will carry you much further.’

Known as one of the most impeccably dressed women in Hollywood, Cate scored yet another fashion coup on the red carpet at the AACTAs on Saturday afternoon.

The Oscar winner looked incredibly stylish in a designer jumpsuit, which featured a gold metallic one-sleeved bodice and black velvet trousers.

She let the unique ensemble do the talking by accessorising with a gold bangle and slipping on some matching black suede stilettos.

Cate let her natural beauty shine through by wearing minimal makeup and her blonde hair was styled in beachy waves.
