Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Manqoba Mngqithi was not completely satisfied despite his side hammering Kaizer Chiefs 5-1.

Masandawana wreaked havoc at the FNB stadium to clinch their seventh straight league title. An early red card for Amakhosi forced the home side into defence for most of the first half. To their credit, Chiefs managed to keep Masandawana at bay for the entire first half.

The floodgate opened in the second half with Downs scoring five goals. Mduduzi Shabalala’s penalty proved to be just a consolation. After the match, Mngqithi admitted that his side could have been more clinical in front of goals.

“Five [ 5-1 ] is good but six would’ve been better,” Mngqithi said after his team wreaked Chiefs.

Ironically, the 52-year-old was linked with the Kaizer Chiefs coaching job in recent weeks. With his contract coming to an end in a few weeks, the former Golden Arrows mentor is yet to sign a new contract. Mngqithi’s move to Chiefs might not be out of the picture but his agent Mike Makaab expected him to stay with Masandawana

“Manqoba is happy at the club, we have said this all along and now it depends on us coming to an agreement with the club to extend his contract,” Makaab told Gagasi FM.

Manqoba Mngqithi to Chiefs might still be on the cards

He said the contract negotiations between Mngqithi and Sundowns were still in the early days, but was only a matter of weeks before talks were concluded.

“It’s still early days as far as the negotiations are concerned, but I am hoping that within the next 7 to 14 days, so within the next couple of weeks, we will have more clarity on Manqoba’s future,” Makaab concluded.

No sympathy for Amakhosi as Sundowns score five

Having lost to Sundowns now three times this season, Chiefs might want to bring Mngqithi on board. Makaab said the Downs assistant coach could decide his future in the next coming days.
