Assistant Trade Minister Tim Ayres has defended the appointment of Glenn Thompson to the Rail Industry Innovation Council, saying there is “no issues with my conflicts of interest.
The Opposition will suggest at Industry Estimates that Ayres had a conflict of interest when he was appointed as an alternate director on CBUS by Glenn Thompson and then, as minister, saw his appointment to the Rail Industry Innovation Council.

“There are no issues with my conflicts of interest,” Mr Ayres told Sky News Australia.
“There was no remuneration received by me for this alternate director appointment which must be, I haven’t checked, must be 10 or 15 years old.
“It is absolutely normal for people who serve as union officials to serve on industry boards.
“It was an appointment that the union made and there was no remuneration received.”
