The director of “Poor Things,” Yorgos Lanthimos, will work with Element Pictures to reimagine the fantasy comedy “Save the Green Planet” from South Korea.

“Poor Things,” directed by Lanthimos, has been the talk of the internet for months now. The film has received five BAFTA nominations, including best actress for Emma Stone, and is nominated for eleven Oscars. This will be Lanthimos and Element Pictures’ sixth joint project.

The project is an eccentric comedy about a disillusioned young guy who thinks he is part of an alien invasion and ends up capturing and torturing a businessman. The businessman, the private investigator, his loyal girlfriend, and the kidnapper engage in a clever exchange.

Jang Joon-hwan directed the initially released South Korean film, which went on to become a festival darling and cult classic in 2003. Additionally, Jang won the 2003 Golden Bell Award for Korea’s best new filmmaker.

Based on the script written by Will Tracy, whose credits include “Succession” and “The Menu,” Jang had originally been scheduled to be part of the adaptation.
