‘Simply the best’ – Fans heap praise on Bafana’s Ronwen Williams
Bafana Bafana beat the Democratic Republic of Congo 6-5 on penalties in the AFCON third-place play-off with. Captain Ronwen Williams once again produced heroic saves to deny Chancel Mbemba and Meschack Lina as fans labeled him ‘simply the best’.
Bafana had exited the tournament at the semi-final stage against Nigeria. The team bravely gave their all during a Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against Nigeria before eventually losing 2-4 on penalties, SAFA said.
RONWEN WILLIAMS WAS ARGUABLY BAFANA’S TOP PERFORMER
The 32-year-old Williams plies his trade for Mamelodi Sundowns in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). Williams’ stock rose after the quarterfinal match against Cape Verde when the shot stopper saved four penalties.

WHERE DID WILLIAMS BEGIN HIS CAREER?
According to the Sundowns website, the Bafana Bafana international graduated from the SuperSport academy in 2012 and has been implacable ever since.
Williams made his debut when he was 18 years old, four years later he sparked his national career when he rose to the occasion.
Williams has enjoyed a prestigious career in the South Africa Premier League division as well as his country, where he has accumulated over 250 appearances at his previous club, as well as earning 25 caps for his country.
