ED summons Mahua Moitra on February 19 in FEMA case

NEW DELHI: TMC leader and former Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra has been summoned by Enforcement Directorate for questioning on Feb 19 in connection with some transactions in foreign currencies.

Moitra was disqualified from Lok Sabha last year after Ethics Committee recommended her expulsion based on an affidavit from Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani claiming that he got her to raise questions in the lower House to target his business rival Gautam Adani.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and Moitra’s former partner Jai Dehadrai had also accused her of receiving cash/gifts from Hiranandani to ask questions in Parliament.

Incidentally, Moitra is scheduled to appear before the agency on the day when Enforcement Directorate has also summoned Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with its ongoing investigation against AAP leadership for alleged bribery of Rs 100 crore in the Delhi liquor scam.

TMC leader was not available for comments when TOI reached out to her seeking her reaction on Enforcement Directorate summons issued to her. She, however, has maintained that allegations against her are not true.

Central Bureau of Investigation is currently looking into the allegations made by Dehadrai and has also recorded his statements along with those of Hiranandani on a reference from Lokpal.

Moitra is scheduled to appear before the agency on the day when ED has also summoned Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in connection with its probe into the Delhi liquor scam.
