Dieguez suffered a medical emergency at the high school and went into cardiac arrest.

Her sister believes she died of an overdose from drugs that she was handed at school.

Paola Covarrubias claimed the young girl took a fentanyl-laced pill.

Tom Bass, principal at Dunwoody High School, wrote a letter to parents following the incident but said he would not share any information surrounding Dieguez’s death.

‘It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the tragic loss of a student today following a medical emergency while at school.

‘We will not disclose additional information about the circumstances surrounding this student’s passing out of respect for the family’s privacy.

‘We understand the gravity of the situation and have shared the news with our students, teachers and staff this afternoon,’ he wrote.

‘Our deepest sympathies remain with the student’s loved ones during this challenging period.’

He said it happened while many students were taking a test and they placed the school on lockdown to prevent anyone coming in or out.

Thomas Tran, a student at Dunwoody High School, told WANF the girl’s death was very concerning.

Thomas Tran, a student at Dunwoody High School, told WANF the girl’s death was very concerning.

‘It shows there’s a really bad drug problem,’ he said.

His father Long Tran, state representative for Dunwoody, said: ‘It doesn’t surprise me that teens would be taking drugs on campus, especially as we get closer to finals week.

‘The pressure is going to be there, and for some students, they’re looking for an edge.’

Principal Bass added that the students and staff will be offered grief counselors and has encouraged parents to speak to their kids.

DailyMail.com has contacted the Dunwoody Police Department and Dunwoody High School for comment.
