FHI: The overall corona risk in August and September is small, but we have to remain vigilant

The National Institute of Public Health (FHI) considers the overall coronavirus risk in Norway in August and September to be small. Still, it encourages vigilance, not least because of the delta variant.

The FHI published its risk assessment on Monday afternoon.

“The National Institute of Public Health considers the overall risk associated with the COVID-19 epidemic in Norway in August and September to be small.

“There may be an increase in the number of infected people, but the FHI considers that the number of severe cases of illness will remain low and with relatively small consequences.

“We still recommend vigilance because the situation can change quickly, not least due to the more contagious delta variant of the coronavirus,” the assessment states.

Delta variant

The more contagious delta variant, which first emerged in India, has taken over in a number of countries in recent months. It is now dominant in at least 19 EU countries. Last week, it also became the dominant variant in Norway.

Many countries have seen an increase in infection recently after reopening and easing corona restrictions. At the same time, more and more people are being vaccinated, especially in Europe and western countries.
