Fehlende Drittimpfung fordert erste Opfer

Eine TV-Kamera hielt den Moment fest, als Alice Schmidli-Amrein im Dezember 2020 in Kriens LU die erste Dosis des Impfstoffs von Pfizer/Biontech erhielt. Heute, neun Monate später, ist sie tot, gestorben an Covid-19. «Hätte meine Mutter eine Booster-Impfung bekommen, wäre sie jetzt noch am Leben», sagt ihr Sohn Jack Schmidli in der «SonntagsZeitung» und beruft sich dabei auf Daten aus Ländern wie Israel, wo Pfizer-Geimpfte nach sechs Monaten einen Booster-Shot erhielten.

Tatsächlich häufen sich in der Schweiz seit Anfang September die Impfdurchbrüche: 40 Personen verstarben trotz Impfschutz mit Pfizer/Biontech, 12 trotz jenes mit Moderna. Doch während die meisten Nachbarländer inzwischen älteren Personen eine Drittimpfung empfehlen, zögern die Schweizer Behörden: «Ob und für wen eine Auffrischimpfung allenfalls notwendig wäre, steht zum heutigen Zeitpunkt noch nicht fest», heisst es beim Bundesamt für Gesundheit.

Diese Haltung stösst zunehmend auf Unverständnis. Ex-Taskforce-Mitglied Dominique de Quervain schrieb diese Woche: «Die wissenschaftliche Evidenz für den Nutzen der Booster-Impfung kann von der Schweizer Impfbehörde kaum länger ignoriert werden.»

Der Infektiologe Huldrych Günthard vom Unispital Zürich sagte vor einer Woche in der SonntagsZeitung: «Ich verstehe wirklich nicht, worauf wir noch warten. Die Daten sind eindeutig, vor allem bei den älteren Leuten, die zuerst geimpft wurden.» (saw)
