Fans devastated after McDonald's announces popular item is set to be axed from the menu - and some demand a petition to make it a permanent fixture

McDonald's UK is getting rid of this popular dessert - and fans are devastated READ MORE: Nutritionists name their five healthiest McDonald's go-to items on the menu - and why the Egg McMuffin is better for you than the chain's oatmeal

McDonald’s fans have expressed their frustration after learning one of the fan favourites is being axed in the UK.

The fast food chain often launches new menus to mark changes in season – and as the new year kicks in, eight items will be ditched from January 3.

One of the items that didn’t make the cut was the Galaxy Caramel Pie, launched by McDonald’s for the first time this Christmas as a funky twist of their apple pie, which retails for £1.19.

The decadent dessert, which was introduced to the menu as a limited edition item, is a crispy chocolate pastry filled with a Galaxy Caramel sauce, setting customers back £1.99.

Foodies took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to air their thoughts on the axing of the firm favourite – and some even called for a petition to make it a permanent fixture on the menu.

One user said: ‘Petition for McDonald’s to sell the Galaxy Caramel pies all year round’, while others worried: ‘I might out on 5 stone this Christmas’.

Another keen customer said: ‘That McDonald’s Galaxy Caramel pie is absolutely crazy’ and another hoped ‘McDonald’s never get rid of the Galaxy Caramel pie omg’.

A different user said: ‘I went to McDonald’s and tried the Galaxy Caramel pie today and oh my’.

Other menus departing from the menu include The Big & Cheesy (£5.49 on its own),  The Big & Cheesy with Bacon (£6.29), the Chicken Big Mac (£4.79) and the Cheese Melt Dippers with Rich Tomato Dip (£2.59).

More items fans will be saying goodbye to are the McDonald’s Chicken Combo (£14.99), Galaxy Chocolate McFlurry (£1.49 (mini), and the Galaxy Caramel McFlurry (£1.49).

However, it’s not all bad news for British McDonald’s fans as some popular former favourites are making a comeback on January 4.

The Steakhouse Stack (£5.49), the Fajita Chicken wrap (£3.49), the Fajita Chicken wrap meal (£5.39), Cheesy Garlic Bites (£2.59) and Cheesy Garlic Bites Sharebox (£6.79).

More returning items include the Cadbury Dairy Milk McFlurry, priced at £1.99, the Cadbury Dairy Milk mini McFlurry, for £1.49, the Cadbury Caramel McFlurry (£1.99) and the Cadbury Caramel Mini McFlurry (£1.49).

This comes after two nutritionists named their five healthiest McDonald’s go-to items on the menu – and why the Egg McMuffin is better for you than the chain’s oats.

Believe it or not, you can have your hamburger and eat it too — all while staying healthy.

Registered dietitians Catherine Karnatz and Lara Clevenger, from the US, have revealed the healthiest options that are on the fast-food chain’s menu despite most items being high in saturated fat, cholesterol, salt and sugar.

The five tasty options range from 15 to 470 calories.

The first item on Catherine and Lara’s list is the apple slices, which come in at just 15 calories.
