Fans have heaped praise on Mason Greenwood after the forward starred in Getafe’s draw with Villarreal on Friday.

Jose Bordalas’ side won an early free-kick on the edge of the Villarreal box, with Greenwood stepping up to take it using his weaker right foot.

The Manchester United’s loanee’s cross forced a sloppy headed clearance from Yerson Mosquera with Getafe midfielder Nemanja Maksimovic seizing the opportunity to fire them into the lead.

The move comes just weeks after Greenwood had again showcased his weaker foot by netting a penalty with it against Real Betis.

Later in the game the 22-year-old would embark on a dazzling run after receiving the ball deep, driving past several players down the byline before delivering a driven low cross into the box.

In the second-half Villarreal would fight back to equalise with a goal from former Liverpool full-back Alberto Moreno, with the game ending level between the two sides.

However, despite his side failing to secure three points at El Madrigal, Greenwood’s performance garnered significant praise from supporters on social media.

One wrote: ‘I’m convinced Mason Greenwood is too good for La Liga. Bruh. How do you cruise through players so easy like that.’

A second fan claimed: ‘Mason Greenwood is generational.’

Another agreed: ‘That Cross from Mason Greenwood, What a player for Getafe.’

A further supporter insisted the United academy graduate has the potential to become a truly elite talent: ‘Mason Greenwood is on fire. Whoever signs him in the summer is getting a potential world class player.’

The one-cap England international is expected to depart United permanently this summer, with Atletico Madrid among several teams reported to be interested in signing him.

Greenwood had previously been charged with attempted rape, assault, and coercive behaviour in January 2022 after a series of harrowing images and voice recordings were shared online.

However the charges were dropped on February 2023 by the Crown Prosecution Service following the withdrawal of key witnesses. Greenwood has denied any wrongdoing.
