Music director Deva explains why he rejected playing the villain in Dhanush’s ‘Raayan’

Raayan’ is an upcoming Tamil film directed by Dhanush. The film is a gangster drama, and it stars Dhanush, SJ Suryah, Kalidas Jayaram, Sundeep Kishan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Selvaraghavan, Dushara Vijayan, Aparna Balamurali, and Sarathkumar, among others. The film’s music is composed by AR Rahman.

Earlier, music composer Deva was asked to play the antagonist in the film, but he declined. The music director, speaking to the media on April 14, revealed the reason for declining the villain role. He explained that his call with Dhanush was about how there was no one in the field who could play the role with ease like me as it required me to speak the local Madras language; the typical north Madras roots of Kasimedu will be evident from the person, and that’s why Dhanush offered him the role.

Deva explained that whoever is playing that character will suffer unless they don’t know how to endure it well. The music composer said that he declined it as he wasn’t very fond of acting. Reports suggest that instead of Deva, actor SJ Suryah is playing the antagonist in the film.

The shooting for the movie has been wrapped up, and it is currently in post-production. The makers shared a new poster from the film last evening, and it is expected that the first single from the film will be out soon.
