New Delhi: In yet another setback to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Education department has now removed Shailendra Sharma, Principal Advisor to Director (Education) in Delhi government after vigilance department said that his appointment was done without the approval of Delhi LG. This comes after the department suspended Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Personal Secretary, Bibhav Kumar.

In the fresh removal, the vigilance department said that the appointment of Sharma in 2016 cannot be categorised as “legal appointment” and the same was not made with “approval of competent authority”.

The notice by the department also states that Sharma participated in education world forum in London with the LG’s approval. Furthermore, the Vigilance Department revealed that Sharma’s name was not initially included in the list of officials seeking permission to attend the study tour. It was later added without seeking approval from the Lieutenant Governor.

The delegation included H Rajesh Prasad (Pr. Secretary), Himanshu Gupta (Dir Edu), Aravind Chandran (Secretary) to Deputy CM. for the tour from 22-25 may 2022.

Sharma’s name was added later on. “As per the records it appears that the approval of LG has not been obtained in the tour of Shailendra Kumar Sharma…The total expenditure amounting to Rs 8,88,59 spent by Shailendra Sharma was borne by Delhi Board of school education,” it added.

Now, Shailendra Sharma, previously holding the position of principal advisor to the education director, has been removed from his post following directives from the Vigilance Department. The notice stated that the appointment of Shailendra Sharma as principal advisor to the director of education was made without adhering to the proper process of creating a suitable position and without conducting a fair and transparent selection procedure as per existing laws and guidelines.

The department has removed Sharma and asked the DoE to consider recovery of the amount borne by it during Sharma’s tour.
