New Zealand Green Party MP Efeso Collins has died after participating in a charity run.

New Zealand Greens MP Efeso Collins has died after running in a charity event in Auckland.

TVNZ reported the 49-year-old collapsed on Wednesday morning after partaking in the ChildFund Water Run, a fundraiser for Pacific communities.

Mr Collins received medical treatment at Auckland’s Britomart, shielded from public view after medics erected a screen around him.

TVNZ cited an organiser who told the broadcaster that Mr Collins had died.

Mr Collins, a south Auckland man of Samoan and Tokelauan heritage, was a high-profile candidate for the Auckland mayoralty in 2022.

He lost that race but won Greens preselection and entered parliament in 2023.
