She was thrust into the spotlight in 2019 when she appeared on Team Kelly on The Voice Australia.
And now almost three years later, Lara Dabbagh, now professionally known as Lara D, is living her dream after landing a deal with Sony Music Australia.
‘I’ve been signed to Sony for two years now, and just released my EP. It’s really exciting,’ she told Daily Mail Australia.
Former Voice star Lara ‘D’ Dabbagh has revealed she never had a Plan B when it comes to making it as a singer – as she lands record deal with a major record label
After signing with the Sydney-based label, Lara traveled to LA where she spent time with renowned producers and songwriters including Diane Warren and Rodney Jerkins.
‘The first time I met Diane, we listened to some songs that she wrote… and I got in the studio the next day to try and make it my own,’ Lara recalled.
‘I’ll be holding onto that until I’m ready to release my album.’
Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Lara D admitted while it was difficult to keep motivated at times, a brief taste of the entertainment industry has kept her driven
Lara admitted while it was difficult to keep motivated at times, a brief taste of the entertainment industry has kept her driven.
‘I feel like my life is set out for me the way it is. I come from a very cultural background being half Middle Eastern and half Moroccan, singing has always been what I wanted to do, there’s been no plan B.’
‘I’ve had so many like amazing people tell me that I’m one of the kind, that I’ve got a very special tone, and what I create is so different from what they’ve heard,’ she said.

‘I feel like that feedback helps me stay motivated… that and Alicia Keys is following me on Instagram,’ she laughed.
‘I started crying. She was the first artist I saw in concert, so it was a big thing for me.’
