PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins carried a 2-0 lead into the final frame of their most recent contest, but it was the Vegas Golden Knights who came out victorious. The Penguins collapsed in the third period eventually losing by a final score of 3-2.
The Golden Knights third, and game winning goal, came off the stick of rookie Brendan Brisson who was playing in just his third NHL game. The tally was Brisson’s first career NHL goal and there were multiple reasons why it was a special moment for him.
Obviously, scoring your first goal is monumental, and making it a game winner only makes it bigger, but Sidney Crosby was on the ice for the Penguins. Crosby’s agent just so happens to be Brisson’s father, Pat.
Crosby has been a client of Pat’s pretty much his entire playing career and is familiar with Brendan at one point being his babysitter. The Golden Knights have been in a bit of an injury pickled recently, opening the door for Brendan, a 22-year-old, 2020 draft pick to kick start his NHL career.
Scoring your first career NHL goal against one of your father’s biggest and most popular clients has to add a little extra excitement around the moment.
“it doesn’t really make any sense,” Brisson said after the game. “To score my first NHL goal against legends like that, guys you look up to your whole life, it doesn’t feel real.”
Brisson played in just over 13 minutes in his third NHL game and made it count in every way he could. Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan said all three of the Golden Knights’ goals stemmed from ‘nothing plays.’
