Andres Iniesta and Paul Scholes have shown their mutual respect for each other in a shirt exchange captured on the Spaniard’s social media.

In their prime, the pair were two of the most talented midfielders of their generations and were opposition rivals in both the 2009 and 2011 Champions League Finals when Barcelona met Manchester United.

Over the years, the two football legends have regularly mentioned their admiration for each other, and in a new post it seems that admiration has continued.

Posting on his Instagram account, Iniesta  shared a video showing him receiving a signed shirt from the former United midfielder.

The clip sees both Scholes penning his signature on his famous number 18 shirt and the Spanish star happily receiving the gift.

Alongside the video, Iniesta sent a message to Scholes and football memorabilia outfit Icons, thanking them for the gift.

Iniesta wrote: ‘Thank you so much to my friends at @icons_memorabilia for getting me a signed and personally dedicated shirt from a player I have always greatly admired, @paulscholesaaa!

Thank you Paul and thank you Icons!’

Scholes was quick to respond to the video, and reposted the reel to his story with a message of his own admiration for the former Barcelona ace.

He quipped; ‘That’s the closest my shirt has ever been to @AndresIniesta8. What a footballer.’

Scholes and Iniesta shared decorated football careers during their peak at the top of the European game.

The former England international won eleven Premier League titles in his time at Old Trafford, as well as winning the Champions League twice.

He also won 66 caps for his country, scoring 14 goals and playing in two World Cups.

Unbelievably Iniesta’s CV reads even more impressive. Having won nine La Liga titles and five Champions Leagues whilst at Barcelona.

While internationally, the midfielder scored arguably the most famous goal in Spanish football history, when his winner against the Netherlands bagged Spain the 2010 World Cup.

He won 131 caps for his country and was also part of the Spain squad that won the Euros in 2008 and 2012.

Now aged 39, Iniesta is still playing for UAE Pro League side Emirates.
