Exact date heavy rain will hit as Brits brace for a week of intense 2in downpours

BRITS are braced for heavy downpours this week, as the UK is set to be drenched by 2in of rain – but it won't last too long.

The Met Office are forecasting that, while heavy rain is likely throughout the week, it is expected to settle down by Friday.

Forecasters say that rain will sweep across the North West tonight and then focus on Wales and the North into tomorrow.

Wednesday will then see “windy gales” while heavy rain moves out eastwards, while localised showers are expected on Thursday.

Friday should see the wet and windy weather ease and the outlook into the weekend is clear or sunny spells, with reduced showers in the North.

There will be some breezy areas, especially in coastal regions, but the overall forecast is for normal temperatures, with the chance of chilly nights.

Mist and fog is also possible overnight and into the early mornings.

Met Office meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth said: “This week will be a particularly changeable week, with rain likely in many areas at times.

“It’ll be more persistent on until Thursday morning particularly for northern and western areas of the country, afterwards it will become more showery.”

She added: “The heaviest rain is expected on Tuesday evening and Wednesday daytime.

“We could see up to 60mm falling throughout Tuesday and Wednesday in parts of Northern England and Western Scotland, which is about 2 inches.”
