Report: Maple Leafs Prospect Fraser Minten Traded From WHL's Kamloops Blazers to Saskatoon Blades

One of the top Maple Leafs prospects has reportedly been traded.

TSN’s Darren Dreger reported Friday afternoon that Maple Leafs prospect Fraser Minten has been traded from the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers to the Saskatoon Blades.

Minten, after playing four NHL games, was returned to the Blazers in late October and just a few days later was named the captain in Kamloops. That captaincy lasted only 22 days.

The 19-year-old was selected by Toronto in the second round (38th overall) in the 2022 NHL Draft. Minten was expected to spend all season in junior but tilted heads in Maple Leafs training camp, which resulted in him earning an extended stay in the NHL.

Minten, during his four games with Toronto, centred the third line, averaging 11:26 of ice time and zero points during that span. Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said Minten has a “terrific perspective and maturity” for how he handled things in the NHL.

The Blazers will be getting “multiple” first-round picks in return for Minten, according to Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek. Kamloops is currently second-last in all of the WHL, while Saskatoon is fourth overall. The 19-year-old currently has 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in seven WHL games this season.

This trade should allow Minten to play in some important games come the spring. One of Minten’s goals ahead of this season was to make Team Canada’s World Junior roster.

“That’d be amazing if I could make that happen,” the 19-year-old said during Maple Leafs training camp.
