The Merseyside Derby is a huge opportunity to get the season back on track and get smiles back on Blues’ faces.
Imagine coming away from that game on Wednesday night with a win and the belief it would bring for both the players and the fans.
The pressure would be off Rafa Benitez and maybe the other injured players can start coming back and they can turn the season around.
Liverpool are in fine form, they’re scoring goals left, right and centre.
We know it’s going to be a difficult game, we know what they’re good at. There aren’t going to be any surprises, we know who the danger men are and how they like to play football with deep crosses from both sides of the pitch.
Let’s make it difficult for them to do that but we’ve also got to think about how we’re going to score goals and try and pin them back instead of us chasing.
It’s a game against your arch rivals.
Those players who I’ve said have lacked the will to win and were spineless and toothless at Brentford should have the words of myself and others pinned up on the dressing room and told to go out and prove us wrong.
If you want those fans to start cheering you on, you’ve got a massive opportunity in front of a packed house at Goodison Park full of supporters who would give everything to be there on the pitch themselves.
You can’t be negative at all. Jurgen Klopp has already come out and started talking about how he’s worried about the derby because of the physicality of it all, trying to get into the referee’s ear by playing mind games already.
So what? It’s the derby. It happens. We’ve got to put our own stamp on it.
We always knew that it would be a massive game for Benitez no matter where Everton were in the table.
They’re the form team but I’ve been there as a player myself in similar situations and been able to get results.
We’re always the underdogs in derby matches but that’s when Everton seem to come into their own.
I remember the Duncan Ferguson era when the lads left everything on the pitch and got some positive results in often difficult circumstances.
Fingers crossed these boys can do the same.Internet Explorer Channel Network
