Paul Young, Toyah and Go West coming to Leicester for 1980s night at city's cricket ground

Icons of the 1980s will be coming to Leicester for a night of nostalgic pop at the cricket ground in Grace Road. The event will features Paul Young, Toyah, Go West, China Crisis and Haircut 100.

It will take place at Leicestershire County Cricket Club in Aylestone on Saturday, August 3. Diane Gane, head of events at the ground, said: “Leicestershire County Cricket Club are thrilled to have five music legends here at the Uptonsteel County Ground.

“Join us for classic 80’s nostalgia, and be part of this great retro music event.” The event starts at 2pm and tickets are available from the ground’s website by clicking here.

Tickets start at £36 per person. Go West, whose hits include King of Wishful Thinking and We Close Our Eyes, will be headlining the event. The band, comprising Peter Cox and Richard Drummie, was formed in 1982 and despite being in their 60s are still busy playing gigs around the country, including a concert at De Montfort Hall last month.

Haircut 100

Paul Young, now 68, has been performing since the 1970s and is know for hits like Where I Lay My Hat and Love of the Common People. Over his career he’s had five Grammy nominations and sold more than five million albums.

Toyah Wilcox, who has been performing for the past 42 years, is known for hits such as It’s a Mystery, I Want to be Free and Thunder in the Mountains, while China Crisis had their biggest hit with Wishful Thinking in 1984. And Haircut One Hundred had hits including Love Plus One, Nobody’s Fool and Fantastic Day and the event will be a reunion gig for them.

The organisers said: “Don’t miss out and join us for this show-stopping event with a truly legendary line-up.”
