Michigan Quarterback JJ McCarthy Is Reportedly Skyrocketing Up Draft Boards After NFL Combine
Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy is one of the big winners of the NFL Combine. With Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels not participating, it was a huge opportunity for McCarthy and the other quarterbacks. He took advantage of the opportunity. His throwing session was one of the highlights of Saturday, and he tested well in the other drills. He is reportedly skyrocketing up draft boards.
Michigan QB JJ McCarthy Skyrocketing Up Draft Boards
Up until the NFL Combine, the top three, Williams, Maye, and Daniels, were in a class of their own. After the weekend, McCarthy may be crashing the party. Reports coming out of the Combine say that McCarthy impressed so much that going in the top three isn’t out of the question. He could be a quarterback for whom teams trade up. The other three quarterbacks will have pro days, which could solidify the top three, but right now, McCarthy is getting a serious look.
Is This An Overreaction?
We always have to be careful with the Combine. We’ve seen many instances where a player performs well over a couple of days but then falls flat once drafted. The knock on McCarthy has been the lack of plays he had to make in college. Michigan had an elite running game with Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, which was buoyed by an elite defense. McCarthy wasn’t asked to do much. However, the potential is there. Teams hope that with the right coaching, McCarthy will be a quality starter in the NFL.
JJ McCarthy was one of the big winners of the weekend. Could we see him go in the top five in April?
