Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag considers a move for Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong to be ‘all or nothing’ as he deems alternatives to the Dutchman are ‘just not good enough’.
The Red Devils have been locked in negotiations with the La Liga giants for weeks, with hope on both sides that a £68million agreement is finally in its closing stages.
Strengthening the side’s midfield has been a priority for Ten Hag, particularly following the departures of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard.
But while United have offered a contract to Christian Eriksen as he prepares to become a free agent on July 1st, a move for De Jong is considered ‘all or nothing’ by Ten Hag.

The Dutchman is wanted to play at the base of Untied’s midfield, which Ten Hag considers the most important position in his starting XI.
The deepest-lying midfielder sets the tempo of the side and though Ten Hag has looked at alternatives to De Jong, he feels they are ‘just not good enough’, according to the BBC.
If and when De Jong is signed, United will move on to other areas of the squad.
Eriksen is set to make a decision on his future in the next week, with the Dane deciding between United and Brentford.
A right-back, a flexible attacker and another defender are other areas of the squad that Ten Hag wants to strengthen.
