Emma Raducanu is facing off against Sloane Stephens in a battle between two US Open champions. Raducanu, 19, stunned the tennis world last summer by going through qualifying to win at Flushing Meadows in just her second Grand Slam ever – while Stephens, 28, won the US Open in 2017 in an all-American final against compatriot Madison Keys. Emma Raducanu has enjoyed a fairytale start to her tennis career, putting in a staggering first appearance at Wimbledon to reach the fourth round (one better than Andy Murray managed on his debut at SW19, and two rounds further than John McEnroe managed on his Grand Slam singles debut) shortly after sitting her A Levels.

The Bromley teenager then followed this up a few months later by winning the US Open, after coming through qualifying without dropping a single set. In doing so Raducanu became the first British woman since Virginia Wade in 1977 to win a Grand Slam title.

The win in New York is arguably one of the most incredible sporting achievements from any British sports person, and in the aftermath Raducanu won the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year award for 2021.

In the run-up to the Australian Open – the first big tournament of 2022 – Raducanu admitted her preparations for the Slam have been “far from ideal” after testing positive for Covid last month, which meant she couldn’t practice for 20 days.

If you want to tune in to the Australian Open 2022 then you will need access to Eurosport, who are the exclusive broadcaster in the UK of the first Grand Slam tournament of the year.

Raducanu and Stephens are expected to step onto court at 10am on Tuesday January 18, so you won’t need to set your alarm for the crack of dawn to watch all of the action from down under.
