Elizabeth Hurley dazzles in sequinned pink blazer suit as she departs NYC's Empire State Building after lighting it for Breast Cancer Awareness month

Elizabeth Hurley departed the Empire State Building in New York City on Monday after hosting a lighting ceremony in honour of the Estee Lauder Company’s Breast Cancer Campaign.

The actress, 57, put on a dazzling display in a neon pink blazer suit featuring sparkling sequins, which she teamed up with a pair of white trainers.

She framed her face with oversized sunglasses and carried a multi-coloured clutch, while a chaperone held an umbrella over her amid the pouring rain.

The Bedazzled star is encouraging women to check themselves regularly for signs of breast cancer as new research released by The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) UK & Ireland has revealed that eight in 10 women do not.

A longstanding global ambassador for ELC’s Breast Cancer Campaign, she believes more needs to be done to encourage everybody to check for signs of the disease.

She exclusively told MailOnline: ‘Evelyn H. Lauder co-created the Pink Ribbon and founded The Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Campaign as she recognised that women around the world were dying from breast cancer, and no one was talking about it.

‘Ironically, it was around this same time that I had just lost my beloved grandmother to breast cancer – she put off going to the doctor for a year and never spoke about it.

‘Now, three decades later, it’s encouraging to see that breast cancer is not the taboo it once was.

‘More people are talking about it and awareness levels and access to information about breast cancer have significantly increased.

Bigwigs: She was joined by Executive Chairman of Estée Lauder William P. Lauder at the event

‘But we still need to do more to improve self-checking rates as we know that early detection saves lives.’

Elizabeth previously revealed how her grandmother kept her diagnosis secret from the rest of the family, saying her relative showed her scars from a double mastectomy once she finally told her family about her diagnosis, but would often change the subject.

She was joined by Executive Chairman of Estée Lauder William P. Lauder at the event.

The duo lit up the Empire State Building by pulling down a lever. The huge skyscraper lit up a bright pink.

Estée Lauder has done quite a bit to fight breast cancer in the past 30 years including funding more than $108 million globally for lifesaving research, education and medical services and more than $86 million towards funding medical research grants through the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an international effort to fight the disease which 2.3 million people are diagnosed with every year.
