PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar on Friday lauded the arrest of a political aspirant in Midsayap, North Cotabato who was allegedly involved in the trade of illegal drugs.
In a local police report, LtCol. Rolly Oranza, chief of Midsayap municipal police station, identified the suspect as Tom Nandang alias Datukon Nandang, 52, a resident of Barangay Upper Glad 1, Midsayap, North Cotabato.
Eleazar said the arrest was proof of the police organization’s commitment to run after lawless elements, including persons aspiring for elective posts.
“I commend our operatives who carried out this operation for heeding to my call to monitor the illegal drug activities of some erring candidates in order to ensure that drug money will not be used to fund their bid for the 2022 local and national elections,” said Eleazar.
“This is but proof of our continuous determination to win the campaign against illegal drugs despite the serious challenge we are facing now. We will not be distracted in our determination to further cripple the operational capability of illegal drugs syndicates in the country.”
Operatives from the Midsayap police, 34th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) nabbed the suspect and were able to recover around P5 million worth of suspected shabu and a cal. 45 pistol from his possession.
“I am reiterating my warning against political aspirants with connections to criminal groups, you will be arrested. The PNP will stop you from using your guns and goons to try to steal the elections from our kababayan,” Eleazar said.
“Your PNP will not stop pursuing narco-politicians and other politicians linked to criminal groups. We will not allow them to use their illegal connections to undermine our democratic process.”
The suspect was placed under the custody of PDEA and will face criminal charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002” and illegal possession of firearms.
Eleazar also tasked the local police to conduct further probe on Nandang’s illegal activities to identify his possible cohorts and establish the scope of his drug operations.Internet Explorer Channel Network
