Immigration Minister Andrew Giles’ inability to answer questions about the management of the detainees released last year is “completely damning”, Shadow Immigration Minister Dan Tehan says.
“There are absolutely serious questions … that the Prime Minister I think now needs to answer – is his minister up to the job?” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
Mr Giles refused to confirm on Monday whether the paedophiles and murderers released under the landmark NZYQ High Court ruling currently had ankle bracelets and stressed the community protection board was providing advice on managing the issue.

He also refused to give a straight answer in parliament on Tuesday when asked if he knew the whereabouts of any of the released criminals.
“His failure to answer the most basic questions like are the seven murderers and 37 sex offenders including child sex offenders being monitored – are they wearing ankle bracelets?”
