Veteran keeper Denis Onyango could leave Mamelodi Sundowns as the club prepares for life without him.
A local football publication reports that Sundowns are preparing to release Onyango and bring back Ricardo Goss on loan from SuperSport United.
As things stand, Phakaaathi has it that the veteran Onyango is not going to renew his contract with Sundowns.
The 38-year-old ex-Uganda skipper, Onyango has been starved of regular game time under coach Rulani Mokwena.
Since Ronwen Williams’ arrival in 2022, Mokwena prefers him and Sundowns is now looking at life without the 2016 Caf Champions League winner.
WHY SUNDOWNS ARE NOT GOING TO RENEW ONYANGO’S CONTRACT
With Sundowns having Goss, Reyaad Pieterse, and Williams, it seems there is no need to keep the veteran keeper, Onyango.
The source to the football website has it that age is not on Onyango’s side and Sundowns will not renew his contract.
“Onyango has done well for Sundowns, but let’s be honest, age is no longer on his side. He’ll be turning 39 in May,” says a source about Sundowns keeper Onyango.
“With Ricardo, who is on loan at SuperSport doing so well, he’ll come back and become Ronwen’s understudy.”

With Sundowns comfortably sitting at the top of the DStv Premiership with Williams’ contribution, Onyango could leave Masandawana.
Looking at his contribution to the Chloorkop-based Sundowns, Onyango featured in seven matches in all competitions last season.
With Williams owning the number one spot, the ex-Cranes international has only made three appearances this term across all competitions.
SUNDOWNS BANKING ON GOSS, TO RELEASE VETERAN ONYANGO?
Moreover, the informant adds that Sundowns are stable in the goalkeeping department as they also have Pieterse.
The former SuperSport, Bidvest Wits keeper, Onyango joined Sundowns in 2011 from the now defunct Mpumalanga Black Aces.
Meanwhile, after struggling to command a regular spot at Sundowns, he was loaned out to the Clever Boys during the 2013/14 campaign.
“And remember, Sundowns also have Reyaad, so they’re fine in the goalkeeping department,” adds the source on Onyango’s situation at Sundowns.
Additionally, it will be interesting to see if Onyango will start against TP Mazembe this weekend.
