no decision yet on rosmah’s representations over money laundering charges

Rosmah Mansor claims the 12 money laundering charges involving RM7.09 million, and five other charges of failing to declare taxes are defective.

KUALA LUMPUR: The prosecutors in Rosmah Mansor’s money laundering case have yet to decide on her representations calling for the charges to be dropped, the High Court was told today.

Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib informed Justice K Muniandy that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is still investigating matters raised by the wife of former prime minister Najib Razak in her representations.

“It is taking time because of the complexity of the issue,” he said.

Akram said MACC is trying to get witnesses to come forward and have their statements recorded. However, many of them are unavailable, he said.

He said the prosecution is ready to proceed with Rosmah’s application to strike out her money laundering charges on July 4.

Rosmah was represented by lawyer Joshua Tay.

Rosmah, 72, wants the 12 money laundering charges involving RM7.09 million, and five other charges of failing to declare her income to LHDN struck out on grounds that they are defective.

She is accused of committing the offences between Dec 4, 2013 and June 8, 2017.

The trial began on Aug 24, 2023. So far, two witnesses have testified.
