Among Us TV series adds new famous names to its stacked cast

In 2020, the game Among Us gained mass popularity – first spreading among Twitch streamers, then to gamers and eventually to famous figures, including presenter Jimmy Fallon and politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The Mafia-style game from Innersloth brings together a group of crewmates who are trying to complete tasks. However, the team includes imposters who are trying to kill the rest of the players. Through observing each other’s behaviour and convening via voice chat, the members must gradually eliminate who they believe to have ill intentions.

This style of gameplay has made its way to reality TV via shows such as The Traitors and The Mole, so it makes sense to create a new scripted series around the popular whodunnit structure.

When is the Among Us animated series releasing?

No release date has been confirmed for the Among Us animated series.

Casting announcements have been trickling in throughout this year, and it’s been in development since June 2023.

Therefore, a 2025 release date is most likely, but there is a chance that it could land in late 2024. We should learn more in the coming months.

Who are the cast members in the Among Us animated series?

Developer Innersloth has confirmed a wide number of cast members. There are some huge names in there, including The Lord of the Rings alumni and sitcom stars from Fresh Off the Boat and Community.

The colours refer to the shades of the players in the game, and Innersloth has also provided some brief descriptions of each one:

・Randall Park as Red, the Captain of The Skeld and a confident people pleaser who has failed upwards to the position of leader

・Ashley Johnson as Purple, a sarcastic Chief of Security with trust issues who is considered the ‘wet blanket’ of the team

・Yvette Nicole Brown as Orange, a spineless corporate HR professional known to fire employees over email

・Elijah Wood as Green, an unpaid intern who is just happy to be on the team and will do whatever they’re told

・Dan Stevens as Blue, a charming and hot Doctor who also has a doctorate in poetry

・Liv Hewson as Black, a Geologist who supervises the ore shipments and prefers rocks over people

・Kimiko Glenn as Cyan, a Gemologist who is big into healing crystals and ‘supervising the vibes’

・Debra Wilson as Yellow, an opinionated and prankster Ship Cook who is best friends with Brown

・Patton Oswalt as White, a wealthy Contest Winner who doesn’t want to contribute to tasks or get involved in drama

・Phil Lamar as Brown, another Ship Cook who is chill, supportive and accountable

・Wayne Knight as Lime, an Engineer who believes in conspiracies, preps for doomsdays and is afraid of intimacy

Pink is the main colour from the original game that doesn’t yet have an actor. However, other characters were later added including Maroon, Rose, Banana, Gray, Tan and Coral.

Owen Dennis will serve as the creator and executive producer of the show. He is the creator of Infinity Train.

What will the plot of the Among Us series be?

No official synopsis has been revealed yet, but the source material gives us a very good idea of what to expect.

Among Us typically takes place either on a spaceship, a research base or an Airship. Red’s official job title tells us that the series will likely take place on the first option because the spaceship is called ‘The Skeld’.

Whatever map is chosen, crewmates must complete tasks such as rewiring, swiping key cards or repairing shields to get the ship up and running. They must do this before the clock runs out, as otherwise, the place will deplete of oxygen.

Standing in their way are imposters – shapeshifting aliens who are blending in with the crew, trying to look like they’re completing tasks. However, they’re either killing off other players or stalling for time so the clock runs out. They can also sabotage the map, such as by cutting the lights or communications.

Innersloth

Every time a crew member is killed, someone can report the body, and then the team must deduce who did the deed. Of course, anyone can lie, so this makes people very mistrustful of one another.

Nonetheless, the team must put it to a vote, and whoever gets the most is ejected from the ship – regardless of whether they are innocent or guilty.

When the group is down to just a few members, either the imposters or crewmates will win depending on who outnumbers who.

As this is a series, we imagine that each episode may end either with a dead body being found or by someone being booted off the spaceship.

Where will the Among Us series be airing and streaming?

The Among Us TV series is being made by CBS Studios and Innersloth. No streamer is yet attached, but the CBS brand means that Paramount+ is a likely home for the show.

This would make sense, as it is home to the Halo live-action series and the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off, Knuckles.
