Eight bodies found in Quang Nam landslide

All eight people have been found dead at a landslide in Nam Tra Van District's Tra Van Commune in the central province of Quang Nam while rescue teams are still looking for 43 others at another landslide in the neighbouring Tra Leng Commune.

Deputy chairman of Quang Nam Province, Ho Quang Buu, announced at 9am on October 29 that they have recovered the bodies of all eight people who were reported missing at Tra Van landslide.

"12 others who were injured here have been brought to hospitals," he said. "Meanwhile, there were 49 people buried at the Tra Leng landslide among them four managed to escape and two were found injured. We're rushing to search for 43 others."

Rescue forces wait for the road clearance

The official said that rescue teams are still trying to reach the area as all the roads have been blocked by serious landslides.

"Military officers were mobilised at 2am this morning and are now trying to open the road to Tra Leng," he said.

A member of the military rescue team, Colonel Tran Cao Thai said that it is very difficult to reach the area at present on both roads and waterway.


"The road leading to the area is about over 53 kilometres but is being blocked by lots of landslides while floods are rising on the rivers," he said.

On the morning of October 29, deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung also went to the area to direct the rescue work.
