Transporters and educational institutions will make agreements at local and regional level from August about the distribution of students in public transport (OV). This puts an end to the national agreements made about this, reports OVPro.nl.
In contrast to public transport companies, educational institutions wanted to make regional basic agreements about the distribution of students in public transport. Nevertheless, the Ministries of Infrastructure and Education state that the cooperation between transporters and education is maintained in many regions. Because education will again take place at school more often from September, the agreements may take a different form. There are also regions where the parties are still discussing agreements or regions where it is not necessary to make local or regional agreements.
Differences between and within regions
The reason that education wants to say goodbye to the national agreements is the difference between regions and even within certain regions. According to a spokesperson for the Association of Universities of Applied Sciences, many universities of applied sciences have already made good agreements with municipalities and provinces and with public transport. “In addition, we believe that the hyper peak or other mobility issues should not only be solved by educational institutions and transporters. This requires a broader responsibility from all regionally involved parties.”
