Sunil Gavaskar believes this batter is ‘slight copy of MS Dhoni’

Sunil Gavaskar believes that Rahmanullah Gurbaz can be the X-factor for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the upcoming season because the batting legend sees the Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter “like a slight copy of MS Dhoni”.

Gavaskar also backs Gurbaz’s inclusion in the KKR playing XI as one of the foreign players because of his aggressive style of batting.

“I have liked Gurbaz’s batting a lot based on whatever I have seen. He is extremely aggressive, and his batting is like a slight copy of MS Dhoni. That is why I probably like it,” said Gavaskar on a Star Sports show.

IPL’s most expensive player Mitchell Starc, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine are near certainities as the three overseas players to regularly feature in the playing XI throughout the season, with the fourth spot a likely toss-up between Gurbaz and Jason Roy.

Gavaskar was particularly impressed with the grounded character of Gurbaz, which showed up in one of his heartwarming acts away from the pitch during last year’s ODI World Cup.

“When the World Cup ended, after that, the job he did, he gave money to the people sleeping on the footpath. For doing that, he has to definitely be in the team for me,” Gavaskar said.
