Eagles Doubling Down on Saquon Barkley Decision
The Philadelphia Eagles raised a few eyebrows earlier this offseason when they signed oft-injured New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley to a three-year, $37.7 million deal, going away from their expected strategy of spending little at the position and thus avoiding addding a “star” running back.
But talent outweighed all else in this case.

Roseman made a recent appearance on Mad Dog Sports Radio and is continuing to show extreme confidence in the decision to sign Barkley despite the league-wide drop in value running backs.
“There’s risk in every decision you make, but we don’t think there’s any risk on the talent,” Roseman said. “I don’t think there’s anyone when he came out of the draft that didn’t think he wasn’t a Hall of Fame-caliber talent and person. He’s still young, and we’re really excited to have him.”
Fans shouldn’t expect anything less from Roseman. Obviously, he’s not going to suddenly say he and the Eagles regret signing Barkley, but the team clearly has tons of unspoken confidence in him considering how differently they’ve approached the running back market in recent seasons.
Roseman also said in the interview that seeing Barkley in person a ton due to the NFC East battles along with the proximity of Penn State allowed the team to develop a familiar feel with the former Giant.
A native of Coplay, PA, Barkley stayed in-state and spent three years at Penn State before being the No. 2 overall pick by the Giants in the 2018 draft.
In six seasons with New York, Barkley played in 74 games while posting 1,201 carries for 5,211 yards and 35 touchdowns. He also tallied 288 catches for 2,100 yards and 12 touchdowns.
