Dwayne Johnson has, over the years, channeled an embarrassing ’90s photo of himself for little fun and a lot of promotion.
He originally posted the image on Facebook in 2014 with the caption, “Fanny pack and the lean take it to a whole other level.”

In 2017, he recreated the look (without the poodle hairdo) to tout his SNL hosting gig.
In 2019, Johnson’s co-star Kevin Hart channeled the look for Halloween to promote their Jumanji: The Next Level.
Of all the things my best friend @KevinHart4real can dress up as for Halloween..
He comes back from injury to stick me with this dirty, rotten, HEARTLESS LOW BLOW. 💔😂
Love ya brother. Good to have you back. New JUMANJI trailer drops TOMORROW! #happyhalloween #fannypackrock pic.twitter.com/wNam8OvaGl— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) October 30, 2019
This year, Johnson recreated the look to wish the world a Merry Christmas, singing a more profane version of “Chestnuts Roasting on a Roasting Fire.” He called the guise ’90s Rock.
Merry Christmas, from your keepin’ it 💯 friend. #90sRock 🖤🎄👊🏾 🥃#TappinFannys 👋🏾 pic.twitter.com/U5PoDAOPTq

When he was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2016, Johnson explained that, taking the original picture, he put a tissue under his elbow “because I felt like my turtleneck was expensive.”
He also admitted, “The funniest thing about this picture is [that] this is not a joke. I walked out of the house like this. Like, ‘Hey baby, this is it, right?’”
