Dutch economy gains much more momentum: growth adjusted to 3.8%

Dutch economy gains much more momentum: growth adjusted to 3.8%

According to a new estimate by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), growth was 3.8% compared to the previous quarter. In the first calculation in August, the statistical office still assumed a plus of 3.1%.

The adjustment is related to adjusted figures for household consumption and government consumption. The overall picture has not changed, according to Statistics Netherlands.

The adjustment is related to revised consumption and government consumption figures. Much new information has become available since the last estimate. But the overall picture has not changed, according to Statistics Netherlands. According to the statistical office, the adjustment this time was larger than the average in recent years.

phasing out lockdown

In the period from April to June, the Netherlands benefited from the phasing out of the corona measures, such as the lockdown at the beginning of this year and the reopening of the catering industry and shops. Because the economy showed growth again, the recession that was the result of the second corona wave in the autumn and winter came to an end. Households in particular spent more, but businesses and the government also contributed to the growth.

Compared to a year earlier, the economy grew by 10.4% in the second quarter. According to the first estimate, this was still 9.7%. According to Statistics Netherlands, this adjustment is caused by new figures on healthcare, financial institutions, transport, the travel industry and the catering industry. For example, the so-called production of hospitals showed a stronger recovery than previously assumed.
